Fatigue

The limitation to a frequency spectrum narrower than the dynamic range of the human voice, the absence of interaction with the speakers and the audience and the loss of paralinguistic and non-verbal communication elements require a greater effort to understand the original message, increasing the cognitive load borne by both the audience and the interpreters. In the case of the latter, this phenomenon, known as «Zoom fatigue», produces a feeling of exhaustion, makes it difficult to concentrate and reduces the capacity to process and reformulate the message.

Therefore, when working remotely, teams of interpreters should be organized in shorter shifts.
